Abstract: (Keywords: High Altitude, communities and culture.)
Anthropological studies on high altitude communities have a very distinct place in the growth of ecological anthropology. This is equally true for the curators who tried to collect various objects from such communities for museum display. Present study is the outcome of a teamwork done among the Brokpa and Changpa from Garkone, Dah-hanu and Tso-kar village of Kargil and Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir. A sensible amount of arrangement made in contextualising the need of graceful display with authentic information to arouse a sense of respect to the High Altitude Cultures was one of the prime focuses of the team. The talk will also present the participatory approaches applied in field to affirm and preserve the elements of cultural identity through different audio and visual clippings of the communities, those of which are greatly cherished by the people as their heritage in our museum through exhibitions in future. The findings of this study may lead rethinking among the curators/scholars on the issue linked with museum display.
