Under the activities of IGRMS has organize a five days collaborative programmes (“ISHANEE”- a festival on the theme of North-East culture) in collaboration with the Gurusaday Museum, Joka, Kolkata from 1st to 5th March, 2015 at Gurusaday Museum premises, Kolkata.
A photographic exhibition found main attraction for the people in the said 5 days programmes where showing the rich and diverse culture of North–East. 50 photograph panels has been displayed in this exhibition in various aspects of North-East landscape, life style of their people and culture, which reflects their cultural variation and unique traditions.
Secondly, workshops on art and crafts of North-East have been organized for 5 days in different stalls at the said festival i. e. Jewellery, textiles & bamboo crafts from Arunachal Pradesh; Bodo textiles, jewellery, bamboo crafts, clay crafts, terracotta, metal crafts, water hyacinth crafts, Hajong textiles from Assam; Textiles & jewellery from Meghalaya; Textiles, wood crafts & jewellery from Mizoram; Textiles, bamboo, doll crafts from Manipur; Textiles & jewellery from Nagaland; Bamboo & wood crafts from Sikkim.
Thirdly, More than 100 performers form North-East presenting their vibrant art-form like Bihu of Assam, War dance of Nagaland, wangle of Meghalaya, Cherao of Mizoram, Hojja giri of Tripura and Rashleela of Manipur etc. in the Ishanee festival.
Fourthly, eminent scholars were invited and delivered special lectures on glimpses of North-East during the festival. The audience has been benefited to know about North-East art and culture through these lectures.
Ishanee programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. J. P. Shaw, Regional Director(ER), Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India on 1st March, 2015 at 16.00 PM. The entire progammes is being coordinated by Dr. Soma Kiro and her team, IGRMS, Bhopal along with Dr. Bijan Kumar Mondal, Curator and Executive Secretary, Gurusaday Museum, Kolkata.
